Three Gory New Stills and Home Video Release Plans Arrive for Axe Giant: The Wrath of Paul BunyanAround these parts there are several of us looking forward to this movie as if it were the event of the summer. Well, namely Foy and I. Finally we have the home video plans and even three incredibly bloody new stills for you to dig into!

From the Press Release
He’s not your grandfather’s Paul Bunyan, the powerful, cheerful lumberjack clearing fields to help build America. No, he’s 15 feet and half a ton of brutality, and he’s on the loose in AXE GIANT: THE WRATH OF PAUL BUNYAN. The award-winning creature feature slashes its way onto DVD from Virgil Films on June 18, 2013, wielding an SRP of $19.99.

Veteran horror film writer/producer/director Gary Jones (Boogeyman 3, Ghouls, Spiders) and writer/producer Jeff Miller (Hellblock 13, Ballistica) turn one of North America’s legendary heroes into a monster who lets trees stand but has a thing about young people running around his forest. AXE GIANT: THE WRATH OF PAUL BUNYAN is a contemporary take on the tall tale of lumberjack Paul Bunyan. When young people are sent to a first-offenders’ boot camp nestled in the woods, they quickly discover that their biggest worry isn’t grueling exercise – it’s that Paul Bunyan is no myth and he’s not a kindly sort of hero. After they inadvertently incur the wrath of the monstrous giant, who was banished from town 100 years ago and thought dead, the kids must team up with the local sheriff to stop his new rampage of terror.

The film stars genre vet Joe Estevez, Dan Haggerty (TV’s “Grizzly Adams”), Tom Downey (Syfy’s War of the Worlds), and Tim Lovelace (Mosquito). Amber Connor, Jesse Kove, Kristina Kopf, Clifton Williams, Victoria Ramos, Jill Evyn, and former WWF wrestler Chris Hahn (“Johnny Paradise”) round out the cast. This is the first major role for Kove, son of actor Martin Kove (The Karate Kid, Rambo).

Robert Kurtzman’s Creature Corps created the extraordinary makeup effects that help bring this reimagined Paul Bunyan to horrific life, with Kurtzman (creator of FROM DUSK TILL DAWN) and Philip R. Garrett joining the team as co-producers. Newcomer Jason Ancona wrote and produced with Miller and Jones.

Edward Douglas of Midnight Syndicate composed the score. Country punkabilly singer Hick’ry Hawkins wrote and performed the original theme song, “The Ballad of Paul Bunyan.”

AXE GIANT: THE WRATH OF PAUL BUNYAN won the Audience Award at the Shockfest Film Festival. Film Radar named it one of the top indie horror films of the year, with reviewer Jonathan Weichsel calling it “a real fun ride. You rarely see this kind of genre film made today with so much care.”

Episode 268: Mind Body Spirit Filmmkers Alex Henes and Matt Merenda and The Brave Little Toaster (1987)
This week we're joined by Alex Henes and Matt Merenda, the filmmakers behind the yoga-horror found footage film Mind Body Spirit, which is available on demand and streaming on Shudder and AMC+. Then we chat about The Brave Little Toaster and how it destroyed all four of our childhoods. Anthropomorphic appliances, self-cannibalism, religion...this movie has it all and we laugh our way through describing just how messed up it actually is.
