‘Bad Girl Boogey’: Queer Slasher To Get Summer Blu-Ray Release

Bad Girl Boogey

If you haven’t been watching the rise of Australian trans filmmaker Alice Maio Mackay, you’re missing out on one of the best new voices in the genre. From her feature film debut So Vam to her third feature T Blockers which just had its world premiere at Salem Horror Fest, Mackay has already shown horror fans her understanding and love for the genre, through an unapologetically queer lens. We’re excited to exclusively announce that Umbrella Entertainment has acquired Australian distribution rights for her second feature film Bad Girl Boogey and will be releasing the film on June 7th on Blu-ray and VOD.

Read the film’s full synopsis below:

Bad Girl Boogey follows Angel whose mother was brutally murdered one Halloween night, when blood was shed by a deranged killer wearing a parasitic mask cursed with black magic and bigotry. Sixteen years later, when Angel’s best friend is slaughtered by a killer with the same mask, they must overcome their personal struggles, fight their fear, and find the masked killer before he, or it, slaughters everyone they hold dear.

Mackay was 17 years old when she directed and produced Bad Girl Boogey. She co-wrote the script with Ben Pahl Robinson. The cast includes Lisa Fanto, Iris Mcerlean, Chris Asimos, Toshiro Glenn, Lewi Dawson, Steven Thai Hoa, Prudence Cassar, and Kate Bonney with a featured voiceover cameo from horror icon Bill Mosley. Aaron Schuppan lensed and edited the film, with a score by Alexander Taylor & SFX makeup by Adele Shearwin.

It was previously announced that Dark Star Films acquired the US rights for the film. Bad Girl Boogey will hit VOD in the US on July 4, 2023.
