The Best Horror Movies Streaming Now on Netflix

Last updated: April 4, 2025

April is a weird time for Netflix subscribers who like horror if you are not looking for PG-13 titles. They are adding movies like Insidious: Chapter 2 and Matilda, to name a few. However, they are also dropping the newest season of one of my favorite shows the streamer owns while wrapping up a different series that allowed us to follow a stalker for five seasons. The streamer is dropping a few classic titles that every genre fan will probably pause for. Netflix is also birthing a new animated series geared at people who love a popular video game series from my childhood. So, the app is a mixed bag this month. However, that does not mean there is not some fun to be bad, and I am here to share the five titles that I think deserve our attention the most.

Here are my five picks for this April.

The Addams Family (dir. Barry Sonnenfeld)

Con artists attempt to separate the Addams Family from their fortune. I thought The Addams Family was pure cinema as a child. Renting this movie is the reason I discovered the original show. I cannot wait to revisit this gem and remember the little kid I used to be before becoming the creepy bitch I am today. This stacked cast includes Anjelica Huston, Christopher Lloyd, Joan Cusack, and Christina Ricci. It also stars the late Raul Julia, who was my first Gomez Addams and still owns a piece of my heart. I would be lying if I said this was not one of the titles I am most excited to catch on Netflix month.

Black Mirror: Season 7

Charlie Brooker’s sci-fi anthology is back with a seventh season on April 10. The six episodes are expected to be a mix of genres and styles as usual. What I like about Black Mirror is the dark humor and the nods to the world we know in a futuristic society. I also love that it shines a mirror on the ills of humanity while giving us the razzle-dazzle of mind games and outrageous technological advancements. I have been a super fan of this show for years and look forward to taking the premiere day off to binge all the episodes like I always do. This is the closest thing we currently have to The Twilight Zone, and I love it so much. I do not think it gets enough respect for being funny, upsetting, and chaotic.

Devil May Cry

A handsome demon hunter is humanity’s only hope when a villain threatens to open the gates of hell. I was raised on Capcom games and will root for any adaptations coming from their library. So, I plan to binge all 8 episodes of this animated series on Netflix. It only premiered on April 3, but I have heard many good things about it already. I doubt anything will match the excitement of the video games, but if it’s even half as much fun as they are, this will be an event.  I think this might be a great place to begin the new chapter of this franchise. Whether you are new to the Devil May Cry world or have just been outside of it for a few years too long, I hope we all give it a whirl.

Psycho (dir. Alfred Hitchcock)

A secretary runs off with a bag of money from her office and stops at a motel owned by an odd man and his domineering mother. Psycho is perhaps the most beloved Alfred Hitchcock film of his career, so it is always amazing to find it on a streamer. This thriller stars Anthony Perkins, Janet Leigh, and Vera Miles and is a movie that haunts most of us whenever we shower. This is one of the blueprints for psychological horror. After all, who doesn’t think of the Norma Bates reveal when discussing the most shocking moments in the genre? The iconic tale led to three sequels, a prequel series, and countless pop culture references. It is almost required viewing if you are a Netflix subscriber this month.

You: Season 5

Joe Goldberg continues to terrorize women in the fifth and final season of You. This equally addictive and ridiculous thriller has been an entertaining journey. We are all curious how Joe’s return to New York will end. Penn Badgley’s character’s reign of terror has been magnificently different from the version in Caroline Kepnes’ novels the Netflix show is based on. Joe’s former lovers have been played by amazing actors like Victoria Pedretti and Tati Gabrielle. There have also been fantastic actors in supporting roles like Jenna Ortega and John Stamos. So, anything can happen, and anyone can show up in what we all hope is a fitting swan song for this show about a professional stalker. We have seen some chaotic kills and followed the most untrustworthy narrator these last few years. We have also learned to be afraid of what people do with the information we share on social media. So, it was time well spent no matter how this show ends.
