One thing all great filmmakers have in common is a deep love of cinema. The horror legend known as Jordan Peele is no exception to the rule.

As most Peele fans know, he has a love for this genre that is unmatched. IndieWire did the Lord’s work in combing through interviews to find 17 horror movies that Peele has mentioned are his favorites.

Some of these highlights are in specific categories, like Critters (1986) is his favorite B-movie. Or Alien (1979) and A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) are tied for his best-designed movie.

However, seven movies constantly come up under the label of his favorites. We pulled those in no particular order, so you can see what the Peele Master General thinks is cinema.

Dead Again (1991)

Stream it on Prime Video

Uncle Jordan would, of course, have a neo-noir thriller starring Kenneth Branagh, Emma Thompson, Andy Garcia, and the late Robin Williams in the chamber. I somehow never heard of this movie, but it’s currently on PlutoTV and Prime Video, so I’m about to know her.

A Tale of Two Sisters (2003)

Stream it on Kanopy

Because Peele has taste, he knows this is one of the best movies of this millennium. I love this twisted psychological horror, and it was the movie that made me realize Korean cinema never misses.

The Babadook (2013)

Stream it on Tubi, Shudder and AMC+

This movie was a moment, and people are still arguing about who the real villain is 10 years later. This dark and creepy movie deserves all of the love it gets. So, I’m happy Jordan Peele is as into it as I am.

Martyrs (2008)

Stream it on Tubi, Plex, Vudu and Pluto

Many people love this horrific tale of revenge. However, I’m not as metal as the Peelester, so I keep putting it off. However, because it’s on PlutoTV, it might be the summer I find an adult to watch it with me.

Halloween (1978)

Stream it on Shudder, AMC+, Crackle and Plex

This movie is the reason we still do slashers today. It is perfect and arguably John Carpenter’s best movie, depending on how you feel about The Thing. I would’ve Nope’d out of the list had this version of Michael Myers not been here.

Jaws (1975)

Stream it on Peacock

There’s no way you can watch Us and Nope without seeing the influence this movie had on Jordan Peele. It’s also simply the best shark movie we’ve ever gotten. I’m starting to suspect it’ll also be the best we ever get.

A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)

Stream it on Screambox

Because Petty Freddy raised most of us, it shouldn’t come as a surprise when an icon recognizes this masterpiece. However, it warms my cold little dead heart to know that Peele and I have a shared love for this Wes Craven gem.

As you can see, the King of Monkeypaw Manor has taste. Let me know what favorites you have in common with Jordan Peele at @misssharai.
