The Best Horror Movies Streaming Now on Hulu

Last Updated: February 5, 2025

I am not going to lie. The Hulu horror selections are as thin as my patience this month. I spend a lot of time advocating that the genre umbrella is huge and we should include horror-adjacent titles. However, even I struggled to find movies no matter how far I stretched the label. While this very small list includes 2024 titles like Dead Money and Have You Seen My Son?, subscribers looking for thrills and chills will be left out in the cold. I managed to find a few projects of note while scavenging and can honestly say they truly look like the best options on Hulu this February. Your mileage may vary with each of them, but at least they make an eclectic list of mostly movies to watch from home.

Check out my top picks on Hulu this February.

Bad Genius (dir. J.C. Lee)

A group of high school seniors form an alliance to take down the rigged college admissions system. This 2024 thriller is marketed as a heist film and features screen legend Benedict Wong. So, I was already leaning forward when I saw Callina Liang (Presence) was also in the cast. Liang may not have many screen credits at the moment, but she is definitely an actor to keep an eye out for. Bad Genius is a remake of the 2017 Thailand film of the same name, which is currently available on Netflix. Because this movie flew under my radar last year, I am still playing catch up with the details. However, I do know that Bad Genius will arrive on Hulu on February 18th. If you are even more impatient than I am, you can rent it on VOD.

Beloved (dir. Jonathan Demme)

In 1873, a mother of three is haunted by her horrific past and the desperate things she did to gain her freedom. This gothic psychological horror drama is difficult to watch. It does not mince words when it comes to slavery and what people endured. However, there are only 28 days a year when films based on Toni Morrison’s work are streaming on the usual suspects. This means we have to watch it now while it is under Hulu’s “Black Stories Section” or wait until next year if we are not ready to seek out a physical copy. This haunting tale stars Oprah Winfrey, Danny Glover, Thandiwe Newton, and Kimberly Elise. If you are in a place to take in a movie set during a different awful era in American history, you know the performances will be top-notch.

Man on Fire (dir. Élie Chouraqui)

A former CIA agent is hired as a bodyguard for a young girl he grows attached to. When she gets kidnapped, it forces him to go on a violent rampage to ensure she gets home safely. The 1987 film is based on Man on Fire by A. J. Quinnell. I hope this is a safe space, dear readers. I have to admit that while I grew up with the 2004 remake starring Denzel Washington and Dakota Fanning, I have never seen the original. So, I should fix that while it is on Hulu this month. It will be interesting to see if Scott Glenn and Jade Malle can hurt my feelings as Washington and Fanning did. Part of me wants to cry it all out and do a double feature to see which one is more violent and which one is sadder.

Omni Loop (dir. Bernardo Britto)

A dying Florida woman attempts to solve time travel to go back and make different life choices. This cute little 2024 sci-fi moment stars Mary-Louise Parker and Ayo Edebiri. That pair is exactly as charming as you think it would be. I caught this film at SXSW last year, and I had an okay time. It was not my favorite, but I picked up what Bernardo Britto was trying to do. I also have to admit Omni Loop does a better job at the bittersweet film reflecting on the fragility of life and living in the moment than many others from this era. So, if you are in the mood for a low-stakes romp with a couple of giggles, it is the movie for you. It might also be cool if you need a lighthearted palate cleanser with everything happening in the world.

Things Will Be Different (dir. Michael Felker)

Two estranged siblings commit a robbery and then hide out in a farmhouse that transports them to a different time. However, the time-traveling home also comes with a mysterious force that puts a further strain on their fragile relationship. This twisty sci-fi thriller took me for a loop. I got a screener from last year’s Imagine Fantastic Film Festival, and the movie was a pleasant surprise. Things Will Be Different is a strong reminder that with enough imagination, you can make a cool sci-fi adventure with any budget. So, I am glad Hulu is letting me see it again this month. I recommend starting here if you are still playing catch-up with 2024 genre titles. Come for the mystery and time travel, but stay for the sibling dynamics and confusion.
