The Best Horror Movies Streaming Now on Netflix

Last updated: December 3, 2024

Netflix is continuing its quest to give us a thriller for every day of this winter. Sure, they are also adding the third season of Evil for the horror fans they left stranded after the second season finale. However, the streamer invites us to get cozy before giving us multiple doses of adrenaline this December. The app is dropping movies like Ferry 2 and Mad Max: Fury Road this month, alongside tons of original new shows. Seeing as I love a good TV series, it should be no surprise that I noticed this trend. This is why the five titles I chose for this month are all shows I want to dive into today. Check out my picks to see if they also grab your attention!

Black Doves

A spy posing as the wife of a politician learns her lover has been murdered and joins forces with an old assassin friend. Together, they embark on a dangerous quest for truth and vengeance. This British Christmastime thriller stars Keira Knightley as a spy, so I am already invested. I cannot remember the last time I saw Knightley on screen, but I doubt it was in anything under the giant genre umbrella. So, I am beyond excited to check this title out. If we are being completely honest, it is about time she got to kick some ass and take some names. This 6 episode series hits Netflix on December 5, and I will not be taking calls that day. A UK limited series selling murder, affairs, and spies is right up my alley. I sincerely hope it is as cool as it seems to be.

Echoes of the Past (dir. Al Sadeer Massoud)

A man accused of murdering his sister spends 15 years in jail. Once free, he sets out to uncover the truth and track down the real killer. We will never have too many Egyptian shows available in the States. Let alone ones that are compelling mysteries about crime and murder. So, I am leaning all the way in for this series. I plan to add it to my neverending list of TV shows I am about to hide in as I wait for winter to pass. The thrilling series premieres on December 6. This means we will watch this innocent man untangle a web of lies and deceit incredibly soon. I am excited and hoping Netflix gives it a marketing push so more people know it is coming. However, the streamer does not really advertise any of its international titles.

The Equalizer: Seasons 1-3

Robyn McCall is a single mom with a mysterious background and a unique skillset. The series is based on the show of the same name created by Michael Sloan and Richard Lindheim. I arrived late to The Equalizer World because I only recently watched the Denzel Washington-led trilogy. So, I have been dying to see Queen Latifah’s spin on this character all year. I am ready to watch her beat some ass and clean up New York City, even with network TV standards holding her back. Netflix is adding the first three seasons, which will allow many of us to really delve into this adaptation. If we dig it, then season five is currently airing on Paramount+. I love it when shows make the leap from CBS to Paramount+ because they get to ramp up the bad language and violence. So, expect a huge shift if you stick it out with this series.

Squid Game: Season 2 (dir. Hwang Dong-hyuk)

Three years after winning Squid Game, Player 456 returns for another round of the deadly game. Gi-hun gave up going to the States and is locked into this life-or-death tournament alongside new players vying for the $45.6 billion prize. After what has felt like an eternity, we have a new season of Squid Game waiting for us on the other side of the holiday season. I imagine the events will be more brutal, some questions will finally be answered, and I am truly worried for our protagonist. This is the perfect excuse to rewatch the first season to refresh our memories before diving back into this mysterious world. The new season arrives on Netflix on December 26. So, make good choices if you are planning to travel that week because you know the internet will be filled with spoilers.

Tomorrow and i (dir. Paween Purijitpanya)

This four-episode sci-fi anthology reimagines Thailand as a futuristic dystopia where technology tears away at culture and morality. The first season tackles topics like cloning, sex work, Buddhism, and global warming via conflict with technological advances. This feels timely, seeing as society has a huge dependency on computers, cell phones, etc., and we are finally starting to have tough conversations about abusing AI. I love anthologies, international genre shows, and most things in the vein of Black Mirror. So, Tomorrow and i is basically my summoning circle. I hope we all make time to check it out before finalizing our end-of-year TV lists because it looks so damn cool. I plan to run at the show the second it hits Netflix on December 4. If it is even half as interesting as it sounds, then it will be a day well spent.
