“Meet Gabriela”: Listen to An Exclusive Track From the ‘Saw X’ Soundtrack
The music in James Wan’s Saw is epic, to say the least. Charlie Clouser’s “Hello Zepp” starting as Tobin Bell gets up from the floor, revealing the corpse has been our killer all along, is one of the most iconic moments in modern horror history. Now, for Saw X, Clouser returns to the series as a composer and is ready to shred our faces off with his music. And we have a little taste of that with an exclusive track from the score, titled “Hello Gabriela”.
Clouser, who composed the score for all of the Saw films and Dead Silence, was also part of Nine Inch Nails and remixed the iconic version of Rob Zombie’s “Dragula” in The Matrix. His score for Saw X is described as “unusually multi-faceted with Clouser providing warmer, more benevolent themes corresponding with John Kramer’s journey from his past.”
Speaking of John Kramer, in the new film:
The most chilling installment of the Saw franchise yet explores the untold chapter of Jigsaw’s most personal game. Set between the events of Saw I and II, a sick and desperate John travels to Mexico for a risky and experimental medical procedure in hopes of a miracle cure for his cancer—only to discover the entire operation is a scam to defraud the most vulnerable. Armed with a newfound purpose, John returns to his work, turning the tables on the con artists in his signature visceral way through a series of ingenious and terrifying traps.
Our exclusive track “Meet Gabriela” plays as we, well, meet Gabriela (Renata Vaca) who is set to be a foil to Amanda’s character in the film. The track is quiet, yet mysterious, featuring haunting vocals, and builds to a confident crescendo that establishes Gabriela’s character and place within the film’s already complex dynamics.
Listen to the track exclusively on Dread Central:
Clouser said of the score:
“My score for Saw X goes to new extremes that I haven’t hit before in the franchise. There are warm sunrises, hopeful emotions, and cautious optimism, followed by some truly bonkers music for the most insane trap scenes ever. Mournful cello melodies, emotional solo vocals, and soothing chord progressions accompany John Kramer’s journey towards salvation.
But then things go horribly wrong, and atonal orchestral torture, chunky metal guitars, and crashing percussion take the lead. In the final act, a massive tonal shift occurs, and the relentless mayhem gives way to soaring themes that build towards a truly epic conclusion. Of course, it wouldn’t be a Saw movie without a big twist ending, and this film ends on a completely different note than any of the others. Let the games begin!”
Lakeshore Records is set to release Saw X—Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally on September 29.
Saw X comes to theaters on September 29, 2023.
