New “Stress-Inducing” Netflix Thriller Tops Global Charts
High-concept thrillers are all the rage nowadays, though they seem to do particularly well on streaming. Alexandre Aja’s Netflix thriller Oxygen, about a woman who awakens trapped in a cryogenic chamber, was considerably tenser than its synopsis suggested, and Swedish thriller Red Dot (a personal recommendation of mine), delivers exactly what its title promises—some yuppies outrun an unseen sniper and his deadly red laser sight. Now, Spanish thriller Nowhere has topped the global Netflix charts, proving there’s plenty more life left in the high-concept survival thriller.
Per Netflix: Pregnant, alone, and drifting in the sea, a woman trapped in a shipping container tries to survive after fleeing a devastated totalitarian country.
Anna Castillo and Tamar Novas star, with Castillo delivering a phenomenal, gripping performance as the pregnant refugee enduring horrific conditions. It’s remarkably difficult to bear the weight of an entire movie alone, though Castillo does so with aplomb, ensuring audiences feel every breakneck thrill and tense life-or-death decision. Is Nowhere entirely plausible? No, not exactly. But, it gamely commits to its suspension of disbelief for an affecting, and terrifying, thrill ride. Fans have been vocal online, too, noting how Nowhere delivers “epic” thrills and unbearable suspense.
Check out what fans have been saying about the Netflix thriller below:
Not only does Nowhere threaten to break your spirit, but it also looks to be breaking hearts as well. The tearjerking survival thriller will no doubt have a healthy shelf life on the streamer as more fans check out what the internet can’t stop raving about.
What do you think? Have you had a chance to check out Nowhere yet? Was it as stressful as the internet claims? It’s okay if you need a minute to catch your breath. When you do, connect with me over on Twitter @Chadiscollins!
