‘Gannibal’ Exclusive: Hit Horror Manga Finally Gets Its English-Language Debut
Comics and graphic novel publisher ABLAZE is bringing Masaaki Ninomiya’s modern-day horror manga masterpiece Gannibal to Kickstarter. The bestselling 13-volume horror manga series, published in Japan by Nihon Bungeisha, has become a worldwide hit. Now, it’s finally making its highly anticipated English-language debut, with limited edition hardcovers available via Kickstarter.
A terrifying thriller series rich in tension and suspense, Gannibal has been adapted into a live-action TV series, directed by Shinzo Katayama (director of J-horror movie Missing), currently available on Disney+/Hulu. The series stars Yuya Yagira, Sho Kasamatsu, and Riho Yoshioka. According to the official Hulu synopsis,
“After causing a major incident, police officer Daigo Agawa takes his wife Yuki and daughter Mashiro to live in the remote mountain village of Kuge. It seems the perfect place for the family to recover from the ordeal, despite the mysterious disappearance of a previous officer posted there. The village thrives on forestry, with the residents making their living from cypress timber. In charge of this whole operation is the Goto family, who own most of the village. One day, the body of an old woman is found on the mountain. The Goto family says she was attacked by a bear, but Daigo notices a human bite mark on the arm. Daigo begins to suspect something is not quite right with the village.”
Rich Young, co-founder of ABLAZE, said of the manga, “Gannibal is a powerful and truly scary story. Horror manga is renowned for its deeply affecting stories and Gannibal will definitely stay with readers long after the first reading.”
