Hulu Top 10 Charts: Fans Call Insane October Release One of the Most “Bizarre horror films of the year”

Huluween is in full swing. And the content just keeps coming. A new body horror film called Appendage debuted on the streamer October 2nd. And people are already taking a shine to the flick and turning to social media to share their reactions. While the critical reception hasn’t been overwhelmingly positive (currently rated at 55% ‘fresh’ on Rotten Tomatoes), viewer response to the Hulu original has been much more favorable.

Several people have drawn comparisons to Frank Henenlotter’s cult classic, Basketcase. One Twitter user took that comparison one step further and called the film a “…nice mash of Basket Case meets The Devil Wears Prada”. If that doesn’t pique your curiosity, I don’t know what will.

Plot synopsis per Rotten Tomatoes: “Hannah (Hadley Robinson), a young fashion designer, seems fine on the surface, but secretly struggles with debilitating self-doubt. Soon these buried feelings begin to make Hannah physically sick and sprout into a ferocious growth on her body: The Appendage. As Hannah’s health declines, The Appendage begins to fuel her anxieties — her perceived lack of talent at work, her deteriorating relationships with her boyfriend and best friend, and her parents’ lack of love and understanding. At her breaking point, Hannah makes a shocking discovery–there are others out there like her.”

The Hulu original offering is helmed by Anna Zlokovic and marks her feature film directorial debut.

The cast includes Hadley Robinson (I’m Thinking of Ending Things), Emily Hampshire (television’s 12 Monkeys), Brandon Mychal Smith (Horror Noire), Deborah Rennard (Freddy’s Nightmares), and Kausar Mohammed (Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous).
