Crowdfunding Campaign Launches for Queer Werewolf Short, ‘Twice as Shy’

Writer/director Anjelica Hymel (creator of the web series The Dark Room) has started a crowdfunding campaign for her thesis project, Twice as Shy. And from what we’ve learned so far, the picture sounds quite promising. It’s a queer horror short about a werewolf who is gearing up for the eve of his very first transition. The film is expected to touch on LGBTQIA+ issues, as well as speaking to the destructive power of anxiety. You can check out what Hymel has to say about her latest project in the player window below.

The crowdfunding campaign is poised to offer up a number of exiting prizes to anyone that pledges backing funds. The rewards include digital downloads of the film, a copy of the soundtrack, and original artwork. Higher tier rewards like an associate producer credit and a cast video are also up for grabs. But if you’re interested in donating, don’t hesitate. The campaign ends soon.

The plot crunch is as follows: “Rick supports his lifelong friend, Jack, during his first full moon as a werewolf. They are equipped with breathing exercises and a cage made of silver so that Jack can transform without hurting his friend. As the stress of the upcoming transformation arises and Jack lets his anger out on Rick, Rick lets out his own frustration on Jack about feeling rejected after they slept together two months prior. As their argument reaches its peak, Jack painfully transforms and Rick realizes the protective cage is unlocked.”

The film’s cast includes: Cole Sitilides as Rick and Zach Chasen as Jack. The rest of the team is comprised of producers Traycee King, Quinten I. Williams, and Derek Dennis Herbert (through DDH Productions). Angelica Gonzalez will serve as DP and Emily Rice-Slothower will handle special makeup effects.
