Exclusive time, kids! We’ve just gotten word that Mischa Barton has signed up for active duty on Zombie Killers: Elephant’s Graveyard, the first in a trilogy of films under the Zombie Killers moniker. Read on for details and some exclusive storyboards!
Barton (pictured) joins the previously announced Billy Zane, Dee Wallace, Felissa Rose, and Gabrielle Stone in the zombie horror film shooting in Northeast Pennsylvania this September 2013. With a market over-saturated in everything zombie, the filmmakers promise to avoid a Walking Dead/Living Dead knock-off with a character-driven story that delivers the goods for the sub-genre’s fans.
The film has several sequels already planned under the branding of “Zombie Killers,” which is referenced in the film, as the story focuses on a team of young warriors under the leadership of military vet Zane. Wallace plays Sharon Sommers, a terminally ill mother pushing her son to leave the dying town of Elwood, even if it means facing death beyond its gates. She shares the screen with her real-life daughter, Gabrielle Stone, who plays her son’s love interest, Nikki. Sleepaway Camp‘s Felissa Rose portrays a religious zealot who works to convince the town’s residents of a fixed fatalism that can’t be fought.
Written and directed by B. Harrison Smith, Zombie Killers: Elephant’s Graveyard will be using the world famous Paintball team Dynasty to train the actors in fighting strategy and maneuvers. In the film the young fighters trained as children on paintball and then advanced to real heavy duty weaponry.
Principal photography begins September 4th in Northeast Pennsylvania with a projected summer 2014 release.
Synopsis
The town of Elwood is a small, rural collection of colorful characters; however, it is enclosed by wide fencing that stretches miles around its perimeter. What lies beyond the fence is something awful in the deep forests surrounding the town. Humans die but keep moving and shamble across the landscape, looking to spread their infection in a grisly, horrific way.
The community is guarded by a band of young people raised since children to be military combatants. Under the leadership of vet Seiler (Billy Zane), they are known to the community as “Zombie Killers,” a negative term used behind their backs. Ian Sommers tends to his dying mother, Sharon (Dee Wallace), while having a semblance of normal life with girlfriend Nikki (Gabrielle Stone). Rory Gower and his young wife, Toni (Mischa Barton), search for a reason behind the plague while Seiler and his young soldiers discover something far worse coming for Elwood… something that may target them or put them in the way of an Elephant’s Graveyard and Hell.
