Dating App Tinder Shares The Top 5 Horror Movies For Hooking Up, According to Science

Tinder

Grab your new boo and watch some boos. Earlier this month, dating app Tinder and streamer Peacock collaborated to help horror fans find their special someone. After noting a 42% increase in Tinder bios talking about scary movies, “Horror Movies” has officially been added as an interest users can add to their Tinder profiles.

Expounding on the trend, Peacock and Tinder both surveyed 1,000 app users and found that 63% of respondents thought watching a horror movie with a date was a great idea, while 49% agreed that a mutual interest in horror was a strong indicator of partner compatibility. It makes sense, really. For time immemorial, horror has brought people together. I’ve written before about my early introduction to horror and the way the genre has helped me to connect with those closest to me.

The survey contends horror was the second most-watched genre on a date, falling just behind comedy (71%) at 69%. Nice. Reported reasons included opportunities for physical proximity (51%), shared thrills (46%), adrenaline (46%), and breaking the ice. Peacock calls this “gore-play,” which I am absolutely hoping will catch on. Netflix and chill? Nah. Gore-play at the grindhouse, if you catch my drift.

Notably, most respondents noted that, while open to a horror movie on the first date, the third date is the prime time for “love at first fright.” In other words, hold onto your copy of Martyrs just a little bit longer. That’s third-date material.

Throughout October, Tinder has noted a nearly 200% increase in users chatting about horror movies, and while the month might be coming to an end, that doesn’t mean the scares (and love) need to. Thanksgiving, It’s a Wonderful Knife, and more are still on their way, ensuring burgeoning horror love birds will have plenty more scares to share through the cold winter months.
