‘They Follow’: Long-Awaited Sequel To ‘It Follows’ Officially Greenlit
Nearly ten years after It Follows erupted into theaters and caused a seismic shift in the horror genre, a sequel has at last been announced. NEON studio will produce They Follow, the long-awaited sequel to the modern horror classic from visionary writer/director David Robert Mitchell and starring Maika Monroe (Watcher).
Horror mainstay Monroe will reprise her role of Jay Height, with principal photography beginning in 2024. NEON will co-produce the film alongside Good Fear Content. Mitchell returns as a producer alongside many of the producers of the first film.
Mitchell made his major debut in the film industry with the coming-of-age drama The Myth of the American Sleepover in 2010. In 2018, he wrote, produced, and directed black comedy/mystery Under the Silver Lake, starring Andrew Garfield and Riley Keough.
Monroe recently wrapped production on Oz Perkins Longlegs, co-starring alongside Nicolas Cage for NEON which sees release in 2024. After her breakout role in It Follows, Monroe starred in Neil Jordan’s Greta for Focus Features as well as Hot Summer Nights, Villains, Honey Boy and Watcher.
