Fans Discover Underrated Denzel Washington Thriller On Netflix: “How did I miss this gem over the years?”

Denzel Washington Peacock

Few living performers today have as many certified bangers in their filmography as Denzel Washington. Decades after getting his start, Washington continues to surprise and delight audiences (even if The Equalizer movies are getting more out of hand with each passing day). Now, audiences can check out an underrated gem from his storied filmography. Safe House, released in 2012, is now streaming on Netflix. Check out a trailer and synopsis below:

Per Netflix: CIA operative Matt Weston must get a dangerous criminal out of an agency safe house that’s come under attack and get him to a more secure location.

While Ryan Reynolds’ casting in Safe House doesn’t make all that much sense, it does prominently feature Denzel Washington doing what he does best. He talks tough, beats down bad guys, and barely breaks a sweat while doing so. Horror fans will be happy to hear Safe House is pretty violent, too, accelerating at a breakneck pace and replete with plenty of tension as Washington must dodge criminals as a former operative turned traitor (or is he?).

Today, Washington is one of just a few performers keeping the adult-targeted, action genre alive. With The Equalizer 3 and the forthcoming Gladiator 2, Denzel Washington will continue to grace us with his presence.

In the late aughts and early 2010s, Washington was everywhere, turning out hit (Unstoppable) after hit (The Taking of Pelham 123). While he remains more committed to franchise work these days, I’m never going to scoff at more Denzel, especially on streaming.
