“Sensational” New Netflix Thriller Rises Its Charts: “It has got me mesmerized”

A new Nollywood title is scaring Netflix subscribers this month. This one is tackling lore so heavy it had to be broken into a two-part horror film on the streamer. However, many fans feel that The Origin: Madam Koi-Koi needed even more time. Let us unpack this terrifying tale a bit more.

In the new Netflix film:

A vengeful spirit stalks an isolated college, drawn by the school’s grim history of sexual violence and one student’s mysterious ties to the past.

Now watch the official trailer:

The Origin: Madam Koi-Koi was directed by Jay Franklyn Jituboh. Jituboh also co-wrote the film with Boladale Falola. The film stars Ireti Doyle, Chioma Chukwuka, Martha Ehinome, Omowumi Dada, Jude Chukwuka, and Nene Aliemeke.

Twitter is digging the movie but complaining that it needed more time to finish the story. Many viewers love the two-part film but noticed the ending felt rushed and did a bit of a disservice to the title.

Because Madam Koi Koi is such a popular urban legend, many people are excited to see it come to life on a popular streamer. The ghost is known for haunting boarding school dormitories. I don’t understand why more horror movies aren’t set in that environment, so I am grateful the internet put this Netflix title on my radar.

Have you already watched The Origin: Madam Koi-Koi on Netflix? Do you agree with Twitter about the movie needing more time to get the ending it deserved? Were you familiar with the lore before the movie? Let’s discuss it at @misssharai.
