Denzel Washington isn’t just one of our favorite actors over here at Dread Central—he’s one of The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences favorites too. In 2001, Denzel Washington won his second Academy Award for his performance in Antoine Fuqua’s Training Day, one of the most acclaimed crime thrillers ever. It features a taut, stirring performance from Washington in the lead role (it’s no coincidence he’s one of the most nominated performers ever), and fans can revisit the early aughts classic now that it’s available to stream on Max. Check out a trailer and synopsis below:

Per Max: A rookie cop meets a corrupt Los Angeles narcotics officer who wants to include him in his schemes.

Corrupt is kind of an understatement given the sheer volume of illegality Denzel Washington’s LAPD officer manifests throughout Training Day’s runtime. There’s no denying that Washington, playing against type, is having an absolute blast, keeping his Detective Alonzo from teetering from villainy over into caricature. It’s an easy role to overplay, yet Washington strikes the right balance, even as the script compels him into more and more outlandish scenarios. Its arrival on Max is as strong an incentive as any to revisit the movie every dad was talking about twenty years ago.

Fans have been just as thrilled to find Training Day streaming on Max. Denzel Washington isn’t content to just dominate Netflix— he’s taking the entire streaming world by storm. Check out what some Washington superfans have had to say below:
