Hulu Gems: Stephen King Is Surprised His Own Miniseries Ever Made It On Cable: “The ending is dark.”

One of my favorite Stephen King miniseries is finding new fans on Hulu this winter. Part of the fun of watching people discover it is reading the shocked Twitter reactions when they see what this 1999 ABC Special Event served us on broadcast TV. It seems that King is also enjoying this Storm Of The Century renaissance.

A fan recently took to social media to share how shocked they were that network TV showed such disturbing material. Stephen King retweeted them and shared that he was also surprised they were allowed to do that.

When I finished laughing at this exchange, I also had questions. Who were the cool kids at ABC that allowed this miniseries to air? The fact that I love it so much should’ve been my first red flag that it wasn’t appropriate for a broadcast channel owned by Disney in 1999. If you haven’t seen Storm Of The Century, check out the trailer and synopsis below.

In the miniseries, “Mike Anderson, the constable of the isolated Maine island hamlet Little Tall Island, is facing the toughest challenge of his career. Not only is a devastating winter storm bearing down on his community, but it brings with it one Andre Linoge, a sinister stranger. Linoge, who may just be the devil incarnate, has an uncanny knowledge of all of the town’s dark secrets, and he uses that knowledge to drive some of the locals to murder and suicide. With each horrific event, Linoge repeats his demand: “Give me what I want, and I’ll go away.” What he wants, however, is more horrifying still.”

Storm Of The Century is directed by Craig R. Baxley and the screenplay was written by Stephen King himself. The miniseries stars Tim Daly, Colm Feore, Debrah Farentino, Casey Siemaszko, and Jeffrey DeMunn. If you need more coaxing to watch it, remember that Stephen King said, “The ending is…dark,” while sharing that he’s also surprised this flew on ABC.

Is Storm Of The Century one of your favorite Stephen King titles? Do you have plans to watch it this winter with a hot beverage and a TV blanket? Then we have a lot in common and should probably talk at @misssharai.
