Quentin Tarantino Calls Shocking Modern Horror Movie A ‘Masterpiece’: “I watch it burn audiences down like crazy”
Japanese cinema is one of the arenas filmmaker Quentin Tarantino has borrowed from while forming his own aesthetic. So, it’s never truly a surprise when he nerds out about one of the more well-received horror movies to come out of Japan. However, his love for Takashi Miike’s Audition might have just provided the most wholesome moment of Tarantino’s career.
Far Out UK recently unearthed this clip from James Whale Bake Sale’s YouTube channel of the controversial director recommending the film to an interviewer and audience. Quentin goes into full geek mode and calls the movie “a masterpiece” amid a sea of compliments.

It’s a Japanese movie; it’s one of the really, really strong movies and quite a masterpiece, one that’s come out in the last twenty years; you should check it out.” -via James Whale Bake Sale

However, he begins to realize that Asami isn’t as reserved as she appears to be, leading to gradually increased tension and a harrowing climax.”
