The FBI recently executed a raid on the home of a Mt. Washington, Kentucky man. 39-year-old James Nott ended up on the Bureau’s radar for the possession of an ill-begotten firearm and the trafficking of human remains. Nott provided authorities with intel that led to the apprehension of additional suspects in a human remains trafficking ring.

When federal agents served Nott with the search warrant, they asked if anyone else was on the premises. According to local news network WLKY, Nott responded by saying, “Only my dead friends.”

Authorities zeroed in on Nott when they became aware that he was trafficking human remains via his Facebook page. During their search, agents discovered a total of 40 human skulls, as well as femurs, hip bones, and spinal cords. The craniums were staged throughout the dwelling as ‘decoration’ and at least one skull was found on Nott’s bed.

Through their investigation, the FBI learned of several contacts with whom Nott was colluding. One of them is a Pennsylvania man believed to be in possession of human skin and organ tissue.

Nott’s contact in Pennsylvania ultimately led the Bureau to Cedric Lodge, a morgue manager for the Harvard Medical School Anatomical Gift Program. The mortuary manager is believed to have been pilfering organs from cadavers slated for cremation and selling them on the black market. Authorities estimate his operation was active over several years and believe he brought at least one ‘customer’ to the morgue to select from the available organs. Lodge has since been charged with trafficking stolen human remains.

Earlier this month, James Nott pled guilty to a gun charge related to the search of his home. But he has not yet been charged concerning the remains discovered on his property.
