Fans Couldn’t Stop Watching This Denzel Washington Thriller On Netflix This Year
We noticed we were all watching so many Denzel Washington thrillers to get us through this year. It only makes sense that a few of them would have to show up on the end-of-year lists for the more popular streamers. So, when What We Watched: A Netflix Engagement Report rolled out, we started skimming for Denzel films. Of course, our favorite living legend was represented, but surprisingly enough, it is for Safe House. It seems so many of us watched the movie on Netflix that it reached 7,800,000 streaming hours.
That’s not bad for a movie that came out in 2012 and is one of the most underseen titles on Denzel’s resume. Safe House also reached the Top 10 Films (English) Charts in 17 Countries this year. That was an extra difficult feat considering that the movie wasn’t released globally on the platform. It also moved to various streamers while the apps were playing Go Fish with our comfort watches. Needless to say, it fought for its place on this list.

If you missed out on this slept-on Denzel Washington action-packed thriller, then you have come to the right place. Like most Netflix subscribers, I can account for some of this movie’s hours streamed. So, I’m happy to share my notes and help you catch up.
In the film,
“For the past year, rookie CIA agent Matt Weston (Ryan Reynolds) has been eager to prove himself while cooling his heels at an inactive South African post. He gets the chance when Tobin Frost (Denzel Washington), a turncoat operative, is brought to Weston’s safe house for debriefing. But soon after Frost’s arrival, mercenaries attack, and Weston and Frost barely escape with their lives. The two men must join forces and try to stay alive long enough to figure out who wants them dead.”
