Stephen King has brought to life so many iconic characters throughout his storied career. The celebrated author has gifted readers with Pennywise, Annie Wilkes, Carrie White, and Jack Torrance, to name just a few. It’s no wonder that he is one of the best-selling authors of all time.

In addition to creating epic monsters through the written word, the prolific scribe also spends a fair amount of his free time consuming the output of other legendary creators.

Several years ago, Stephen King took in Guillermo del Toro’s Crimson Peak and had nothing but praise for the Gothic horror-thriller. In fact, the author took to Twitter (see below) to say that the film terrified him and went on to liken his reaction to the picture to his first impressions of Sam Raimi’s most celebrated cinematic effort. That’s high praise, for sure.

In Crimson Peak:

After marrying the charming and seductive Sir Thomas Sharpe, young Edith (Mia Wasikowska) finds herself swept away to his remote gothic mansion in the English hills. Also living there is Lady Lucille, Thomas’ alluring sister and protector of her family’s dark secrets. Able to communicate with the dead, Edith tries to decipher the mystery behind the ghostly visions that haunt her new home. As she comes closer to the truth, Edith may learn that true monsters are made of flesh and blood.

If you’re keen to revisit Crimson Peak (or check it for the first time), you can find it streaming on Netflix as of the publication of this post.
