‘She Is Conann’ Trailer: A Dreamy Queer Sci-Fi Epic
Do you ever wish Conan The Barbarian was more queer and featured a female protagonist? Well, contemporary queer genre icon Bertrand Mandico has just the thing with his new feature film She Is Conann. A glorious trip into time and space, Altered Innocence is bringing the films to theaters starting next month!
Read the full synopsis below:
Mandico’s most ambitious work yet, the film blurs realities and flips genders, loosely using the American cult classic Conan the Barbarian as groundwork for this intoxicatingly lush 35mm-shot hero’s journey.
She Is Conann is a barbaric fantasy sci-fi trip that boldly celebrates the influences of Fellini Satyricon, The Night Porter, The Hunger, and Fassbinder’s entire oeuvre to craft a moving portrait of a warrior trying to find her place while existing outside of space, time, and meaning.

The film stars Claire Duburcq, Christa Théret, Sandra Parfait, Agata Buzek, Nathalie Richard, and Françoise Brion as the many faces of Conann. Julia Riedler and Elina Löwensohn (who has appeared in every one of Mandico’s films) also star in the film.
She Is Conann opens in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Denver, and more. In addition to the opening of She Is Conann, both Anthology Film Archives and select Alamo Drafthouses will present special short showcases of Mandico’s newly debuting work.
