Although right now he’s knee-deep working on a few film projects, Gregory Lamberson hasn’t forgotten his roots as a horror author, as evidenced by the release of his new novella, Scaremonger, as a Kindle exclusive.
From the Press Release:
While in the midst of production on Sam Qualiana’s The Legend of Six Fingers and post-production on his own Dry Bones, author and filmmaker Gregory Lamberson (The Jake Helman Files, Slime City Massacre) has launched a new novella, Scaremonger, as a Kindle exclusive on Amazon. The novella is the first book in a new series billed as “The Lily Dale Chronicles.”
Lily Dale Assembly, a small hamlet located in Western New York, is a mecca for mediums, psychics, and healers. In Scaremonger four renowned mediums conduct a séance and make contact with the spirit of a Puritan witch hunter named Barnabas Mather. Mather – the “Scaremonger” of the title – causes the mediums to suffer simultaneous heart attacks and uses their burst of fear as a gateway into our world. Once here, he’s in a transitional state that requires him to prey on the psychic energies of the residents. Rosa Thorn, an FBI agent, comes to Lily Dale to investigate the resulting murders.
“I grew up fifteen minutes away from Lily Dale so it’s always held a fascination for me,” says Lamberson. “It’s a busy tourist site during the summer, drawing over 20,000 visitors. The streets are narrow and hilly, with cottages overlooking Victorian homes. There’s a pet cemetery, an outdoor amphitheater called Inspiration Stump and a meeting hall where guests like Deepak Chopra speak. It’s got a tremendous atmosphere that makes it a great location for a horror story. This is my take on Hammer films, The Wicker Man and “Twin Peaks” with an action heroine I hope readers will find as engaging as Jake Helman.”
Lamberson anticipates writing additional Rosa Thorn tales. In the meantime, Storm Demon, the fifth book in his occult detective series The Jake Helman Files, will be published in October; The Julian Year, the first TREEbook (Timed Reading Experience E-book), a unique platform with time triggers and branching technology, will be available for iPads in December; and The Frenzy Wolves, the final book in his Frenzy Cycle trilogy, will be published in the spring.
“Scaremonger is my first e-book original,” the author explains. “This is an experiment for me, and it only costs a buck! I packed as much action and story into its 24,000 words as I would one of my full novels.”
