‘Hellraiser’ and ‘The Night House’ Director is Developing New Remake of ‘The Blob’
Filmmaker David Bruckner (The Ritual and The Night House) is gearing up to breathe new life into an iconic B-movie staple. He has signed on to write and direct the next big screen outing for The Blob.
For those out of the loop, The Blob is about a gelatinous entity from outer space that lands in a small town. Because it feeds on the community members, chaos ensues.

The original version of The Blob was released in 1958. It was directed by Irvin Yeaworth and Russell Doughten and starred Steve McQueen. The film is currently streaming on Max and Tubi. It spawned a sequel in 1972 titled Beware! The Blob, which was directed by Larry Hagman. The movie is currently streaming for free on Plex.
The Blob was remade in 1988 and directed by Charles Russell (A Nightmare On Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors). It saw a young Shawnee Smith and Kevin Dillon battle the alien goo this time around. This was the first blob for many people in my generation, and it might also be why I instantly root for Smith whenever she appears in the Saw franchise.

Because everything is still in the early stages, there are few details about how this will differ from the previous movies based on this property. However, according to The Wrap, it’s a remake of the cult classic, so there’s reason enough to get excited.
Bruckner is no stranger to remaking beloved horror properties. He recently helmed Hellraiser (2022) for Hulu. So we’re eager to see what he does with The Blob.
I love B-movies and feel this will be the event of the season whenever it comes out. I am already eyeing the dress I plan to wear for this occasion. If you are also a little excited to see all this jelly reimagined for modern audiences, let’s chat at @misssharai.
