We’re still a year away from the long awaited release of Sin City 2: A Dame To Kill For, and today comes the announcement that extensive visual effects work on the project is now officially under way.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Mumbai-based company Prime Focus World will be handling the visual effects, executing over 2,000 shots ranging from matte paintings to 3D environments, particle dynamics to digitally created rain and snow. Prime Focus CEO Namit Malhotra says the film’s digital landscape will be even more dynamic than the one seen in 2005’s Sin City, and it will be the biggest project his company has worked on to date.
Prime Focus World is a co-investor on the film, and they previously executed the visual effects for Rodriguez’s Machete Kills, due in theaters on October 11th of this year.
Sin City 2: A Dame to Kill For stars the returning Mickey Rourke as Marv, Jessica Alba as Nancy, Bruce Willis as Hartigan, Rosario Dawson as Gail, and Jaime King as Goldie/Wendy and newcomers Josh Brolin as Dwight, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Johnny, Dennis Haysbert as Manute (replacing the late Michael Clarke Duncan), Stacy Keach as mob boss Wallenquist, Jamie Chung as Miho, Chris Meloni, Crystal McCahill, Jeremy Piven, Eva Green, Ray Liotta, Julia Garner, and Juno Temple.
The film will be released by Dimension Films in the US and Canada on August 22nd, 2014.
