WE HAPPY FEW – WE ALL FALL DOWN Trailer Shows Apocalyptic Final Chapter
I wasn’t too pleased with We Happy Few when it first dropped. To recap, I felt like the game was at odds with itself. Compulsion Games had a great idea for a unique and visually striking world, but it was lost in mediocre repetitive gameplay. I’m not saying it’s impossible to make a good, linear, procedurally generated, singleplayer, open-world, survival crafting game. I’m just saying there’s probably a reason that it hasn’t been done before. And before you go bringing up Subnautica, that game wasn’t procedurally generated.
I wasn’t alone in this sentiment, and the game sits at a modest 62 (PC version) Metacritic score. So when I saw that there was a trailer for the final DLC pack, I wasn’t rushing to my keyboard to let the world know. But I eventually remembered that this is actually my job, and I should probably do it. So I sat down, watched the trailer, and found We All Fall Down to look surprisingly compelling. I’ll admit, I haven’t played any of the We Happy Few DLC. With this new trailer, I may have to give it another look.
Here’s what to expect in the DLC:
You’ve taken your Joy, but now it’s time to tear it all down in this final piece of handcrafted Season Pass content. Play as Victoria Byng, get a grip on her whip, and get the last word on the story of Wellington Wells. As Victoria reckons with her own withdrawals, the city slides deeper into Joy shortage and disorder. It’s always been Victoria’s duty to help keep things proper, but the closer she looks, the deeper the rot seems to run.
We All Fall Down climbs to the highest heights of We Happy Few gameplay yet:
•Tour Wellington Wells at its absolute most dire
•Crack the whip across the face of your foes in a snappy new take on combat
•Or take the stealthy route with a shocking new dart gun
•Take the high road as you climb across the rooftops in a new, stealthy spin on We Happy Few exploration”
•Stick it to the system swiftly – there’s no time for eating, sleeping, and crafting while the world falls apart
So it seems that this DLC is much more straightforward, which I like. My biggest problem with We Happy Few was that it was trying to have its cake and eat it too. By trying to do a bit of everything, it focused on nothing. With this new DLC, we have a chance to see the We Happy Few world in a much more directed manner. Which might be how all the DLCs are. From what I saw on the Steam store page, user reviews indicate that the game has significantly improved since launch. So check it out if you haven’t. The We All Fall Down DLC will be available November 19th, and can be picked up individually for $7.99 or as part of the season pass for $19.99.
