PREDATOR: HUNTING GROUNDS Coming April 24th
It’s been a long time since we’ve had a good Predator game. You might be able to point to the 2010 Aliens vs. Predator game, but I’d argue you have to go all the way back to 2001 with Aliens vs. Predator 2 to find the most recent title that is genuinely great. Perhaps I’m viewing things through my nostalgia goggles, but I remember spending dozens of hours in the AvP2 multiplayer trying to master all of the different Alien species and Predator weapons. Since then, several games have attempted to capture the Predator feel without much success. Let us never forget Predator: Concrete Jungle…
Which is weird, because it doesn’t seem like it would be that hard to make a fun Predator game. You get a Predator with all of his overpowered gadgets and gear, and set them up against a team of more numerous but far more squishy humans. Humans do their best to stick together and survive, while the Predator does his best to pick them off. There have been several successful asymmetrical multiplayer games recently, like Dead by Daylight and Friday the 13th: The Game. Maybe one of those teams should do it…
Well luckily, one of those teams is doing it! Developed by IllFonic, Predator: Hunting Grounds is brought to us by the same team behind Friday the 13th: The Game. News of Predator: Hunting Grounds goes all the way back to May, but today’s State of Play event gave us a new look at what’s in store for this brutal multiplayer bloodbath. As you can see in the trailer above, Predator: Hunting Grounds is all about Predators hunting and humans being hunted.
A few major details were revealed today. First off, the game is launching for PC and PS4 on April 24th, 2020. That’s just over 4 months away, so it’s the point where the hype is acceptable. Players can play as either a human or Predator, with three distinct classes of Predator available. There’s the Hunter, Scout, and Berserker, which each have their own weapons and specialization. The trailer also shows the limb-destroying Smart Disk in action, which is always good for a few laughs. The trailer also features a new female Predator, who came equipped with the Yautja Bow. Whether or not this weapon is exclusive to the female is unclear.
You can find more information about Predator: Hunting Ground on the official Playstation Blog. There isn’t much more information than what I just described, but it does have some pretty cool pictures. The game will be $39.99 at launch, or $59.99 for the Digital Deluxe Edition. Information as to what’s in the Deluxe Edition below. Though time has tempered me to not get excited for new Predator… well anything really… I’m still excited for this one. Friday the 13th: The Game was an unexpected blast, and I can’t wait to see what they do with an even better killer. That’s right, I said it. Fight me nerds.
