Kentucky Route Zero Finally Complete, Leaves Mysterious New Hint For Upcoming Title

When I first reported that the final act of Kentucky Route Zero would be coming soon, I was equal parts shocked and relieved. Many feared it would go the route of countless other promising episodic games, never to receive a real conclusion. And with good reason. The game was first released in 2013, and last saw a release with Act IV in 2016. Three and a half years is a long time to wait. At long last, it’s finally here.

If you weren’t around the first time Kentucky Route Zero made a splash, I’ll recap. Developed by Cardboard Computer, the game weaves together a number of stories about loneliness, loss, and our drive to find a connection. It’s technically an adventure game, but best considered as an experience. The game is also heavily supported by the fantastically haunting soundtrack from The Bedquilt Ramblers. I know, not much of a description. But you really do just have to play it to get it.

Luckily, console gamers can now do just that. While previously only available on PC, the Kentucky Route Zero: TV Edition brings the game to PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. This version contains all five Acts, including the interludes that served to bridge the gap between the game’s lengthy releases. It’s only $25 bucks for the whole thing, which is cheap considering the titanic development time. If you want to find out more, you can click here to see the game’s Steam store page.

But wait, there’s more! In addition to launching the final chapter, Cardboard Computers has also set up a phone line to tease at something on the horizon. By calling (858) 943-6579, you can hear a cryptic message from the Department of the Real. I went ahead and dialed it in case you guys don’t have phones. The monotone voice on the other line leads you to the gaming merchandise store iam8bit, where you can buy the vinyl soundtrack and physical copies of Kentucky Route Zero. The voice also hints at more announcements coming February 18th, March 3rd, and March 23rd. Whether this is more KRZ content or an entirely new project is yet to be seen. Check back in around then, and I’ll have the full scoop for you.
