The World's End Originally Going to Be a Sequel to Shaun of the Dead?!This past weekend saw the theatrical release of The World’s End, the third film in the so-called “Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy” that began with Shaun of the Dead and continued with Hot Fuzz.

Though none of the films actually had much to do with one another from a story standpoint, it looks like there was at one point in time the germ of an idea to make The World’s End a straight-up sequel to the most beloved film in the trilogy, Shaun of the Dead. Say what?!

In an interview with Empire, director Edgar Wright revealed that while there was never a concrete plan to bring Shaun back, the idea did come up one afternoon many years ago to have him battle body snatchers, in what he referred to as an “alternate reality” sort of movie. That initial idea ended up becoming The World’s End, though the character of Shaun of course didn’t make it into the film.

According to Wright, the idea was “excitedly” talked about, but he ultimately realized it wouldn’t be practical since the actors would look older and it would’ve had to have been made immediately.

We can be pretty certain we’ll never actually get a sequel to Shaun of the Dead, but it is kinda nice to know that it has at least been discussed!

Synopsis
20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hell bent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by mate Gary King, a 40-year old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their home town and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub, The World’s End. As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realize the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind’s. Reaching The World’s End is the least of their worries.
