Meet the New Professor on The Vampire Diaries Season 5 - Rick Cosnett “The Vampire Diaries” doesn’t have the best track record when it comes to student-teacher relations (Professor Shane, we’re looking at you), but with several characters heading off to college, of course another hot, but not-so-nice professor is on his way.

Per TV Guide, Australian newcomer Rick Cosnett (pictured) will portray Caroline and Elena’s newest foe, Dr. Wes Maxfield, Dr. Maxfield is a brilliant – and somewhat cocky – professor at Whitmore College, and after meeting him, Caroline (Candice Accola) and Elena (Nina Dobrev) begin to think he’s hiding a dark and dangerous secret. He knows more about Mystic Falls than he’s letting on (doesn’t everyone?), and his true passion is research that he believes will help humanity.

The CW’s #1 series returns October 3rd for its fifth season, promising twists, turns, and of course (love) triangles in this new chapter for our heroes, post-graduation. “The Vampire Diaries” airs Thursdays at 8/7c.

The Vampire Diaries: The Complete Fourth Season will be released on Blu-ray combo pack, DVD, and UltraViolet September 3rd from Warner Home Video.
