Ultra-Indie Daily Dose: Post Void Is A Psychadelic Shooter Of The Best Kind

Hello, you glorious gluttons for all things indie horror! Are you just starving for the newest of the new, the most unknownest of the unknown? If so, you’ve come to the right place. Welcome to the Ultra-Indie Daily Dose! In this series, we’re going to pick a new game every day from an indie horror creator you’ve probably never heard of. No million-dollar budgets or factory productions. This is the space for the little guy with not but a developer toolkit and a dream. So if you’re down to roll the dice on something different, then stick around and check it out!

Extreme epile[sy warning. Normally I like to visit itch.io for the Daily Dose because free indie games are always great. But for this incredible experience, I’m going to make an exception. Post Void is the most recent release by YCJY Games. This psychedelic FPS is a mix of Doom and Hotline Miami, the result being a fast-paced game that feels like the inside of a Ralph Steadman drawing.

I’m not even going to attempt to describe the story of Post Void. All I know is you’re a guy with a gun, holding a head of white goo. The goo is your health, and it is constantly draining out of the head. To refill it, you must kill. You’ve only got about six seconds of goo stored in there, so there’s no time to stop for anything. 

You’re in this colorful dreamlike realm (or perhaps fever-dreamlike) full of enemies, and the goal of Post Void is to sprint to the end of the area. There’s a big pool of goo that leads to the next, and while you’re in it, you can pick one of three upgrades a la Nuclear Throne. These can be anything from a new weapon, to faster reloading, to increased speed while running backward. There are 11 levels total, each progressively more difficult, both in terms of gameplay and how straining it is on your eyes.
