Hello, you glorious gluttons for all things indie horror! Are you just starving for the newest of the new, the most unknownest of the unknown? If so, you’ve come to the right place. Welcome to the Ultra-Indie Daily Dose! In this series, we’re going to pick a new game every day from an indie horror creator you’ve probably never heard of. No million-dollar budgets or factory productions. This is the space for the little guy with not but a developer toolkit and a dream. So if you’re down to roll the dice on something different, then stick around and check it out!
Welcome back to another Daily Dose! Our indie horror today is Guàishòu 怪兽, a title by itch.io developer Apophenia 23. Google informs me that Guàishòu 怪兽 means monster, and indeed the creatures you encounter are monstrous. Horrible amalgamations of human parts and other, the Guàishòu in Guàishòu are not unlike the thing from The Thing.
Playing as a mysterious survivor wielding a lightning gun that looks like the Ghostbusters neutrona wand, you must explore this dark and deadly land. Emphasis on the dark; horrific monsters hide in every corner, waiting for you to slip up. And with high resistance to your attacks and with your character’s slow speed, each encounter could be your last.
You can play Guàishòu for yourself on itch.io by clicking here.
