The Forgotten City Announces Release Date

The time-traveling murder mystery The Forgotten City has announced it release date today. It will come to the PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox One on July 28 this year A Nintendo Switch port will follow sometime later this year.

Published by Dear Villagers and developed by Modern Storyteller,The Forgotten City originally found success as a The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim mod of all things.. Twenty-three trapped souls dwell within an ancient underground Roman city. Though it’s something of a utopia, everyone must follow a strange and mysterious Golden Rule. If one person breaks it, everyone dies. The player will relive the city’s last day in a loop, changing how the final day in these peoples’ lives play out.

The Forgotten City emphasizes that, while combat is sometimes an option, violence can only achieve so much. They’ll need to make difficult choices and exploit the time loop in order to unravel the mystery.

Nick Pearce, the founder of Modern Storyteller, said, “We’re delighted to be releasing the game after more than four years of development by a core team of three hard-working devs.” He added, “We hope it finds its audience: gamers whose intelligence and time deserve respect, who enjoy the challenge of unravelling a mystery on their own, and who understand that a great story doesn’t need to rely on combat to make hearts race and soar.”

There are a huge variety of people to interact with in The Forgotten City.

The open world of The Forgotten City features historically-accurate art, architecture, and costumes. It also includes deep characters with lots of opportunities for interaction. Your decisions will also carry weight and could spell the difference between life and death. The mystery itself is also non-linear. It comes with multiple endings, and you can create your own character with their own gender, origin, and backstory. You’ll use a combination of reason, charm, bribery, intimidation, and, yes, good old-fashioned violence and exploiting the time loop.
