Five Nights at Freddy’s Creator Scott Cawthon Announces Retirement
Today Scott Cawthon, the creator of Five Nights at Freddy’s, has announced he will be retiring and handing the series off to someone else.
Announced on his personal website, Scott begins by showing some fan art that an 8-year-old sent him of his games, then explaining that over the last seven years he has been sent “boxes and boxes” of fan art from fans that he keeps around. He then goes on to say he’s retiring from making video games, due to having six children that he wants to focus his attention on. He also notes that this will not be the end of the Five Nights at Freddy’s series. While no names have been mentioned yet, he did say that “someone else will eventually be running the show; someone of my choosing, and someone that I trust.” In the meantime, Steel Wool Games is still working on Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach, which is set for release at a later date. Other than that, there’s no word on who will be taking over the series.
Earlier this month there was controversy when it was discovered that Scott had donated a large amount of money to Republican political candidates like Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell. After this was discovered, Scott went to the Five Nights at Freddy’s subreddit to post an explanation, claiming that if the fans didn’t want him to continue to make games he would step down from the series. None of this drama is mentioned in his letter outside of a note saying he received a lot of support from the LGBT community.
While Scott Cawthon will no longer be involved, Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach is still set to launch later this year for PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. You can read more about the game over in our article about it.
