Dead Space Remake Set for Next January

Dead Space will receive a complete makeover and is drifting towards a January 27, 2023 launch. Motive made the announcement earlier today during their Crafting the Tension Art Developer Stream. Find it on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PCs. The first trailer emerged last July, exciting fans who haven’t seen a game in the series since 2013.

The remake has been rebuilt in the Frostbite game engine. With Frostbite, the team worked to preserve the atmosphere of the original while modernizing it with high-quality audio and visuals. Those familiar with the story will relive the experience with engineer Isaac Clarke, whose simple routine mission to fix a mining starship goes predictably awry. Everyone on the crew is dead or infected, and Isaac begins searching for his missing girlfriend, Nicole.

The stream showed some of the new lighting techniques planned for the remake.

The stream showed off a preview of the game, including various props, tools, and environments. Dynamic and volumetric lighting combined with full-HDR VFX creates a newly-terrifying and immersive experience to the original.

“Developing this remake has been a lot of fun for us at Motive, as we’re true fans of the franchise and want to treat it with the respect it deserves. It’s been equally exciting to see players’ reactions as we’re taking them on this development journey with us. We’re making great progress on our road to hitting Alpha and we’re happy to announce that the game will be launching in January next year. We can’t wait for players, both old and new, to see how we’ve elevated the original experience in the remake to be just as impactful for this generation.

The original Dead Space utilized the Havok engine and released in October 2008 on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PCs. A sequel, Dead Space 2, launched in 2011, and a third game completed the trilogy in 2013.
