This Early “Underrated” Margot Robbie Thriller is Now Streaming on Prime Video
Pop off (on Prime) Margot Robbie. The Oscar-nominated star might be the talk of the town right now for her role in Greta Gerwig’s smash summer hit Barbie, but before she was an A-list doll raking in millions at the box office (seriously, she’s estimated to take home close to $50 million for her role), Robbie appeared in plenty of genre-adjacent projects.
There’s The Legend of Tarzan, her role as Harley Quinn in several Suicide Squad projects, 2018’s abysmal Terminal (sorry), and, of course, one of her earliest roles in Craig Zobel’s Z for Zachariah. If you haven’t checked it out, now’s your chance—the movie is streaming on Prime Video.
Per Prime Video: In the wake of a nuclear war, a young woman survives on her own, fearing she may actually be the proverbial last woman on earth, until she discovers the most astonishing sight of her life: another human being. A distraught scientist, he’s nearly been driven mad by radiation exposure and his desperate search for others. A fragile, imperative strand of trust connects them. But when a stranger enters the valley, their precarious bond begins to unravel.
Don’t let the floating head poster art fool you. Z for Zachariah is really good. It’s a sublime post-apocalyptic showcase and, post Wolf of Wall Street, as good a showcase as any that Margot Robbie was the real deal. While Z for Zachariah is more of a character study, using the post-apocalyptic isolation to make broad inquiries into the human condition, more patient viewers will find a lot to love.
Craig Zobel, of course, is best known for his work on unequivocally brilliant HBO series The Leftovers and Mare of Easttown, plus 2020’s The Hunt, a fun thriller eclipsed by silly controversy. He’s the real deal, and both he and Margot Robbie elevate Z for Zachariah at every turn. Check out what fans are saying below:
While there are just a few reactions now—the movie is almost a decade old, to be fair—it’s absolutely worth seeking out on Prime Video.
