‘Longlegs’: Watch Chilling Teaser Trailer for Nicolas Cage Nightmare Slasher
I’m a huge fan of Oz Perkins, son of horror royalty Anthony Perkins. His directorial debut, The Blackcoat’s Daughter, is one of the most chilling slow burns this century, and haunted house feature I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House accomplishes a lot while showing little, playing with the form and structure of conventional haunted house movies.
I’m more mixed on Gretel and Hansel, his first wide-release—it’s gorgeous to look at but narratively slight—but with the first full-length teaser for Longlegs released, I’m betting money Oz is back on top. Longlegs looks like it’s going to be one of the scariest movies of the year.
Synopsis: FBI Agent Lee Harker is assigned to an unsolved serial killer case that takes an unexpected turn, revealing evidence of the occult. Harker discovers a personal connection to the killer and must stop him before he strikes again.
Maika Monroe and Nicolas Cage star, with Alicia Witt (Urban Legend, anyone) and Blair Underwood rounding out the supporting cast. Even with some select interview quotes and a teaser floating around, it’s still not entirely clear what Longlegs is about. All I know is I want it and I want it now.
Social media has been in a tizzy since Neon started dropping teasers on social media. Many audiences highlighted the Longlegs campaign as the way to do it. Show just enough to generate interest, but not so much to all but spoil what the final project will be. Check out some choice reactions below:
Interview quotes suggest a dollmaker and his creations forcing others to do things they’d rather not, but so far, Longlegs is as elusive as ever. Come July, we’ll find out for certain.
