A special sneak preview of Troma’s Return to Nuke ‘Em High: Volume 1 will be shown at Buffalo Dreams Fantastic Film Festival on November 9th, and its director, legendary auteur Lloyd Kaufman, will be honored with an award the following day.
From the Press Release:
40-Year-old Troma Entertainment’s Return to Nuke ‘Em High: Volume 1 (review), directed by Lloyd Kaufman, will be held at Buffalo Dreams Fantastic Film Festival in Buffalo, New York, on Saturday, November 9th, at 9:30 pm at Dispon’s Amherst Theatre, 3500 Main Street.
Kaufman will be present for a Q&A following the event and will be honored with the festival’s Dedication to Excellence in Independent Filmmaking Award on Sunday, November 10th. Previous recipients of the award include Debbie Rochon and Roy Frumkes. Admission is only $8.00.
At Kaufman’s request, all proceeds from this exclusive preview will be donated to the Niagara Arts & Cultural Center (NACC), a 501(C)(3) not-for-profit organization in Niagara Falls, where much of Return to Nuke ‘Em High: Volume 1 was shot. Kaufman says, “I am delighted to express my appreciation to the NACC and to return the generosity of the loving Niagara/Buffalo citizens that do so much to support independent art and Troma.”
“This is a coup for our festival,” says Buffalo Dreams co-director Gregory Lamberson. “Lloyd created The Toxic Avenger, a seminal film which has influenced a whole generation of mainstream filmmakers from Tarantino to Eli Roth to James Gunn. Genre fans are now waiting to see Return to Nuke ‘Em High: Volume 1 in order to discover what happens next in Tromaville. We get to preview the film and honor Lloyd Kaufman the same weekend.”
Return to Nuke ‘Em High: Volume 1 will begin U.S. theater distribution in January 2014. It is a hilarious, thoughtful sci-fi “Event Film” with themes ripped straight from today’s headlines: the contamination and degradation of the world’s food supply, rampant bullying, LGBTQ love triumphing over prejudice and violence. The film is a revisiting of Troma’s 1986 cult Class of Nuke ‘Em High.
Buffalo Dreams Fantastic Film Festival will show over 80 movies from around the world Friday, November 8th-Thursday, November 14th. Visit BuffaloDreamsFilmFest.com for additional information.
