Peacock Has Ordered A Scripted Series About An Extremely Controversial Serial Killer

Fans of Peacock’s Devil In Disguise: John Wayne Gacy docuseries can now look forward to a scripted show of the same name. According to Variety, the streamer ordered a limited series inspired by the 2021 title. Here’s everything we know about the upcoming true crime project based on the notorious serial killer.

Per the series synopsis,

“From 1972-1978, thirty-three young men were kidnapped, murdered, and buried in a crawl space beneath their killer’s house. And no one was the wiser. Not for all those years. Why? He was charming and funny. Had a good, All-American job. Was a community leader. He even volunteered to entertain sick kids… while dressed as a clown. Devil In Disguise: John Wayne Gacy peels back the twisted layers of John Wayne Gacy’s life while weaving in the heartrending stories of his mostly gay victims; exploring the grief, guilt, and trauma of their families and friends; and exposing the systemic failures, missed opportunities and societal prejudices that fueled his reign of terror.”

The original docuseries is still available on Peacock. It consists of 6 episodes and debuted on March 25, 2021. It boasts that it tells the story of the well-documented murderer using his own words. The series currently holds a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. Watch the trailer below.

Variety reports that Patrick Macmanus will serve as writer, showrunner, and executive producer on the new show. Macmanus was behind the first season of Dr. Death and the limited series The Girl From Plainville. So, he definitely has his finger on the pulse of true crime aficionados.
