Dread Central Receives 4 Rondo Nominations
Since 2002, the Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Awards—which goes simply by the Rondos—have been recognizing horror excellence and giving horror fans a voice, letting them vote and champion their favorite horror media of the year. We’re especially excited about this year’s ballot as Dread Central has received four nominations!
And the nominees are…
First, Dread Central was nominated for best overall site for providing the best in horror news, reviews, interviews, and more. Tyler Doupé’s weekly column The Overlooked Motel was also nominated. In the column, which includes a video component edited by Ashleigh Slocum, Doupé highlights underrated horror cinema across the decades that deserves way more attention. You can watch all of the videos here and read his column here.
Scarred For Life, a Dread podcast hosted by editor-in-chief Mary Beth McAndrews and Terry Mesnard, also received a Rondo nomination for best podcast. In the show, McAndrews and Mesnard interview a guest about the film that terrified them as a kid. They dive deep into films and even TV episodes that shook horror filmmakers, writers, composers, costume designers, and more to their core.
And lastly, our event celebrating the end of an era for Mick Garris and his podcast Post Mortem With Mick Garris received a nomination for best horror event of 2023! Held at Hollywood’s historic Egyptian Theater in partnership with Beyond Fest and American Cinematheque, the event celebrated Garris’ accomplishments over the last seven years of incredible interviews with some of the best in the business. Special guests for the podcast recording included Joe Dante, Mike Flanagan, Axelle Carolyn, Tom McLoughlin, Bill Malone, and Ernest Dickerson, with video messages from the likes of Stephen King. After the recording, the audience joined Mick for a screening of his iconic 1992 film Sleepwalkers.
