‘Halloween’ TV Series: Beloved Horror Franchise is Set for “A creative reset”
About a year after the Ends of the Blumhouse Halloween iteration, the beloved horror franchise’s future is officially recognized thanks to some exciting news straight from the source. Marc Helwig, the Head of Worldwide Television at Miramax, has shared some insight into what fans can expect from the upcoming television series based on the John Carpenter extended universe of horrors.
Speaking with Deadline, Helwig had lots to share about the status of Halloween the Series:
“We’re on a fast track, it’s a big priority for us. We’ve had lots of exciting conversations in recent months with a number of really talented people, and I think we’ll have a pretty good idea of what we’re going to be doing very soon … We’re hoping to lock down the creative team very soon.”
While this is all very exciting, Miramax is reportedly active in its search for a writer, and no names have yet been attached to the project. That said, the Trancas/Miramax bosses have solidified an idea for the series.
“It’s a big world,” Helwig added. “The foundation of it is the original film, the John Carpenter movie, the characters of that film, and perhaps a group of characters that we haven’t really focused on that much in recent film versions or even in a number of them … It’s a creative reset completely and going back to the original film, as opposed to spinning out of any of the more recent film adaptations.”
The Halloween landscape consists of 13 films and multiple distributors, including Miraxmax arm Dimension films from 1995 until the 2010s. The company released the divisive Halloween 6, the beloved Halloween H20, the much-maligned Halloween Resurrection, and both Rob Zombie reboot films.
Fans most recently encountered the Blumhouse trilogy of Michael Myers titles, Halloween, Halloween Kills, and Halloween Ends. These films proved to be financially successful, but audience response was mixed.
