‘The Mortuary Assistant: The Definitive Edition’ To Debut At PAX
With PAX (Penny Arcade Expo) East just around the corner, we have gotten some interesting news on what DreadXP—sister company to Dread Central—will be showcasing during the four-day convention. Between Thursday, March 21 and Sunday, March 24 be sure to stop by booth #13109 to go hands-on with any DreadXP title to date, as well as a few upcoming horror games that are sure to send shivers down your spine. This includes the hotly anticipated PlayStation 5 version of The Mortuary Assistant!
Dread Delusion
Dread Delusion is an open-world RPG that blends Morrowind and steampunk aesthetics in a creepy world. It’s filled with interesting characters, unique locations, and cool spells. The game sees the player awake as a prisoner of the Apostatic Union and is offered freedom in exchange for hunting the leader of the outlaw Dark Star Mercenaries, Vela Callose.
Dread Delusion is currently available in early access on Steam, and according to the update posts, a full release is coming soon.
Heartworm
Heartworm follows Sam, a woman suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after the recent loss of her loved ones. After stumbling upon a page on the dark web, leading her to believe there is a way to contact the dead in a house in the mountains that has a connection to the afterlife. Sam sets out to the house to find out its secrets for herself. Promising a retro-inspired feel akin to late 90s survival horror, Heartworm is one to keep an eye out for.
Heartworm was recently known for the tragic story of the developer Vincent Adinolfi having his publisher back out late last year. It was just recently announced that DreadXP stepped in to take over the publishing role.
The demo for Heartworm will be available to play at the booth while we wait for the 2025 release date.
The Mortuary Assistant: Definitive Edition
Developed by DarkStone Digital, who recently announced Paranormal Activity: Found Footage, The Mortuary Assistant has players embody Rebecca Owens, a recent grad, former drug addict, and new employee at River Fields Mortuary. After her first shift, things become unruly as demonic occurrences start happening, and it’s up to the player to deduce and banish the demon before it’s too late.
What’s more, PAX East will be the first time anyone has been able to try the hotly anticipated console port of The Mortuary Assistant and the PC update of The Mortuary Assistant: Definitive Edition. What will it include? You’ll have to enter the River Fields Mortuary to find out…
