Mike Flanagan Loves This Found Footage Chiller: “…lingers with you after the credits have rolled”
During Covid lockdown, beloved director Mike Flanagan joined forces with the fine folks at Rotten Tomatoes to share some off-the-beaten-path horror movie recommendations. The latest suggestion from that extensive list is the picture that put Adam Robitel on the map. I’m speaking, of course, about The Taking of Deborah Logan.
Flanagan is a fan of the performances within the film, as well as some of the central themes and the nuance with which they are explored. Here’s everything he had to say: “Adam Robitel’s found-footage shocker functions just as well as an exploration of dementia and its effects on a family as it does a terrifying story of possession. Performances are stellar across the board, but it is the fearless turn by Jill Larson as the titular victim of demonic activity that lingers with you after the credits have rolled … well, that and the shot. If you’ve seen it, you know the one.”

That’s high praise for sure. If Flanagan’s endorsement has piqued your curiosity, you can find the film streaming on Tubi as of the publication of this post. But if you’re averse to snakes, beware. The film is full of them.
The setup is as follows: Mia (Michelle Ang) records the daily lives of Deborah (Jill Larson) and her daughter Sarah (Anne Ramsay) as part of her thesis. As the days progress, strange things happen around Deborah, and it becomes apparent something has taken control of her.
