Netflix Users Devour Top-Charting New Korean Horror Series: “Its definitely a 10/10”

Netflix

While I’m certainly not the most versed in everything anime, especially horror anime, has to offer, I have revisited a few of my favorites here at Dread Central. 2012’s Another is a Final Destination riff with gorgeous animation and shocking deaths, and Higurashi When They Cry is a bonafide classic, a twisty-turny mind-bender packed full of scares.

I’ve even taken a foray into the realm of live-action anime adaptations, even though many fans (most fans) will tell you it’s almost impossible to do well. Luckily, Yeon Sang-ho’s Parasyte: The Grey has bucked convention. Not only did it chart on Netflix, but it’s pretty danged good to boot.

Per Netflix: Parasites descend on earth with a goal: infect and eat humans. But when one fails to fully infect a woman, the two must team up to stop the invaders.

Yeon Sang-ho of Train to Busan fame (and himself an animator) wrote the series as a live-action spinoff, not a remake, of Hitoshi Iwaaki’s manga and anime series Parasyte. The Netflix series delivers on all the gooey, gory body horror fans of the source material have come to expect, though in Yeon Sang-ho’s hands, it’s remarkably fluid, at times feeling like animation itself.

The cast is sensational, and par for the course with modern Netflix offerings, the series is, at present, only six episodes long. The manga spans ten volumes, and the anime two seasons, so there’s a chance we’ll be getting more Parasyte on Netflix. Though for now, it’s the perfect body horror binge (and considerably better than the previous two live-action adaptations).

Fans have been loving it and took to social media to share their thoughts. Check out what they have to say below:
