Tomorrow at this time the trailer for Doug Liman’s Edge of Tomorrow (formerly known as All You Need Is Kill) will be all over the interwebs, but while you wait, here are a pair of new stills and some comments from the film’s star, Tom Cruise.
“One of the suits with the angel wings had a sniper rifle and missile launcher on my back and weighed about 130 pounds. I’m having to sprint in it,” Cruise, who helped develop the suits, tells USA Today. “It’s physically grueling.”
In early days, the suit took as much as 20 minutes to even get into before the film team fine-tuned the design. (“In the end we timed it, and to get me into the suit took 30 seconds,” says Cruise.) And the actors even had specially made rigs on set to take the weight off their shoulders between takes.
Cruise stars along with Emily Blunt, Bill Paxton, Jeremy Piven, Jonas Armstrong, Tony Way, Kick Gurry, Franz Drameh, Dragomir Mrsic, Charlotte Riley, and Marianne Jean-Baptiste. The screenplay was written by Dante Harper, Christopher McQuarrie, and Joby Harold.
Look for the film in theatres on June 6, 2014.
Synopsis
The epic action of Edge of Tomorrow unfolds in a near future in which an alien race has hit the Earth in an unrelenting assault, unbeatable by any military unit in the world. Lt. Col. Bill Cage (Cruise) is an officer who has never seen a day of combat when he is unceremoniously dropped into what amounts to little more than a suicide mission. Killed within minutes, Cage now finds himself inexplicably thrown into a time loop—forcing him to live out the same brutal combat over and over, fighting and dying again… and again. But with each battle, Cage becomes able to engage the adversaries with increasing skill, alongside Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski (Emily Blunt). And, as Cage and Rita take the fight to the aliens, each repeated encounter gets them one step closer to defeating the enemy.
