‘Return To Silent Hill’: Get Your First Look at Pyramid Head

Get ready gamers, because we’ve got the first image of Pyramid Head from the upcoming film Return to Silent Hill, the third film in the franchise and the second from director Christophe Gans.

Today, Variety exclusively debuted the image of the terrifying villain as a rough cut of the film was screened during the Cannes Film Festival, which runs from May 14 to May 25. It’s a simple yet terrifying image that reveals Pyramid Head in all of his horrific glory.

There he is, armed with his giant sword, formally called the Great Knife, ready to destroy anyone in his path. While Pyramid Head is seen in Silent Hill, it’s only briefly and to watch him rip off a woman’s skin. With Return To Silent Hill being more of an adaptation of the Silent Hill 2 video game, Gans will hopefully deliver more Pyramid Head madness, along with his importance to the film’s narrative.

Read the Return to Silent Hill synopsis below:

When a mysterious letter calls him back to Silent Hill in search of his lost love, James finds a once-recognizable town. There he encounters terrifying figures both familiar and new, and begins to question his own sanity.

Jeremy Irvine stars in the film as James, with Hannah Emily Anderson playing his lover, Mary.

Gans returns to the series after almost two decades. He brought us the first adaptation, released in 2006 and starring Radha Mitchell, Sean Bean, and Laurie Holden. While a massive deviation from the first game’s narrative, the film still delivers blood, guts, and barbed wire massacres.

The Silent Hill games are beloved for their chilling monsters and terrifying stories that aren’t just gory, but speak to the horrors of human existence. Often, these monsters are manifestations of trauma, and Silent Hill is not afraid to get dark. Created by Keiichiro Toyama and published by Konami, as of now there are seven released full games with almost 20 total games (full and mobile) bearing the Silent Hill name. Plus there are even more on the horizon (we’re looking at you Silent Hill f).

Return To Silent Hill doesn’t have a release date yet, but is scheduled to come out sometime this year. Keep an eye on Dread Central for more information as we have it!
