The Infamous Horror Film Rob Zombie Calls “The worst movie ever” is Now on HBO Max
Rob Zombie has never been known to keep his opinions to himself. True to form, in an interview with Revolver, the vocalist named his top five most hated horror pictures. The list, which includes iconic ‘90s slasher I Know What You Did Last Summer, also features Patrick Lussier’s Dracula 2000.
I know the flick isn’t great. Probably not even good. But I wouldn’t go nearly so far as to count Dracula 2000 as the worst of all time. I have to admit I dig the film’s glossy, early ‘00s aesthetic and I think it’s kind of fun to see pop star Vitamin C as a vampire. However, Zombie has no such sympathy for the film and took care to eviscerate Lussier’s take on the Dracula mythos and Gerard Butler’s turn as the titular character.
“This may be the worst movie ever committed to film,” Zombie began. “I found every single thing about it to be offensive, from top to bottom. You just stare at it in shock. I especially hate the fact they drop a Virgin Megastore product placement in the film every 10 seconds. It’s just the most disgusting piece of s**t I’ve ever seen. Dracula is a tough character to play, you’ve got to really bring something to the table, and I don’t even remember the guy in this movie. Everything about this movie is complete horse s**t.”
In case you’re unfamiliar with the setup, it goes like this: Long ago, Abraham Van Helsing (Christopher Plummer) imprisoned the infamous Count Dracula (Butler) within a vault inside Carfax Abbey. In the present day, Van Helsing relies on Dracula’s immortal blood to remain alive. But then thieves breaks into the vault and steal the vampire’s coffin, thinking it contains something valuable. Liberated from his prison, Dracula seizes the opportunity to escape, but Van Helsing sets out to banish him to the crypt once again.
That’s all we have for the time being. Stay tuned to the site for more spicy takes as we uncover them.
