the execution

Have you ever heard of the serial killer Andrei Chikatilo? Nicknamed “The Butcher of Rostov”, Chikatilo killed and mutilated over 50 women and children during his reign of terror in Soviet Russia, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan from 1978 to 1990. His methods were chilling and cruel, akin to the likes of Jack the Ripper. While Chikatilo was executed for his crimes in 1994, his legacy looms like a dark cloud. Now, director Lado Kvataniya is addressing that cloud in his feature film debut, The Execution, inspired specifically by the investigation and eventual capture of Chikatilo.
