Stephen King Loves This Steamy Netflix Thriller For its “Great lead performance”

Daniel Goldhaber’s Cam is one of Netflix’s greatest hidden gems. Isa Mazzei’s script, partially adapted from her experience working as a camgirl, follows Madeline Brewer’s Alice Ackerman and the terror that follows after a doppelgänger of herself appears on her cam site. It’s strange, frightening, twisted—all of the things I love.

Goldhaber would go on to helm How to Blow Up a Pipeline, one of last year’s best, which Mazzei produced. The pair is also attached to the forthcoming Faces of Death, a remake of the controversial 1978 film of the same name. It all started with Cam, but the praise wasn’t just coming from me alone. Master of Horror Stephen King himself is a huge fan.

Per Netflix:A young camgirl discovers that she’s inexplicably been replaced on her site with an exact replica of herself.

When Cam was first released, Stephen King tweeted about how he loved the film, spotlighting Madeline Brewer’s performance in particular. Brewer hasn’t been in too much since—and the less said about 2021’s Separation, the better—though she has been more active on small screens, appearing in both The Handmaid’s Tale and the most recent season of You.

One of her earliest roles was Netflix’s Hemlock Grove. Remember that?

This also isn’t the first time Stephen King has had high praise for a Netflix original. He’s been a fan of Calibre, Painkiller, and even Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio. Stephen King watches a lot of Netflix, and that’s great for me. There’s so much stuff on there it’s nearly impossible to keep up.

What better way to stay informed than to check out whatever Stephen King has been liking? Not every recommendation of his pans out, but he hits more than he misses. Especially in the case of Cam. Cam is fantastic. Please watch Cam.
